Course Description
The OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Outreach Training Program is designed to provide entry-level general industry workers with a broad awareness of workplace hazards and the skills needed to recognize and prevent them. Delivered by Fortier Loss Control, this course introduces OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as essential safety and health principles relevant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.
Special emphasis is placed on the most hazardous areas in general industry, using OSHA standards as a guide. Workers will also learn their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to identify hazards and select appropriate protective measures.
All students are automatically upgraded to receive a durable, credit card–sized plastic DOL wallet card—tear-resistant and easier to carry—mailed within 2 weeks of course completion.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the OSH Act, OSHA’s functions, and available resources.
Recognize OSHA inspection priorities and the inspection process.
Identify employer and employee rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act.
Recognize major general industry hazards and learn methods to avoid, protect against, or control them, including:
Slips, trips, and falls from walking/working surfaces.
Safe egress and fire protection programs.
General safety standards.
Hazards of flammable/combustible liquids and gases.
Chemical hazards and hazard communication.
Electrical safety hazards.
Understand the importance, proper use, and limitations of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Learn the basic elements of an effective safety and health program.
